We use go visit Lake George each summer when I was a child. I remember eating at Howard Johnson’s and the location in Lake George Village.

MAD magazine had a lot of fun at Howard Johnson’s expense with some hilarious satire. MAD called them Johnson Howard’s to avoid legal problems but got sued anyway - which prompted more hilarious satire.

Stupid managers don't realize when they are getting millions worth of free advertising.

My Grandparents used to take my Sister, and I to Lake George when we were kids back in the 1980’s. Here’s something everyone who’s been to Lake George remembers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ttbtip95euo

I had forgotten all about that flavor - thanks for bringing that memory back. I can almost taste it. Probably 40 years since our HoJo closed when they widened the highway.

I’ve traveled a lot...would agree, throughout eastern coast and maybe up to Ohio....you saw them.

I don’t remember ever seeing a single one in AZ or NV, or Colorado.

Remember Sambos? I do. Ho-Lee-CRAP would the Leftists have a fit today if that restaurant were still around.

When we moved to central Florida in the 70’s Sambos was essentially the only restaurant in town……and it wasn’t a small town

Sambos, obviously was lost to the ‘racist’ culture

The saying was oh no it’s HoJo’s. Can’t
remember too much about eating there. I’ve read they sold fried clam strips rather than the whole belly type. These were said to be popular though I like the belly ones as I live not far from where fried clams were invented (Essex MA).
The hotel chain of same name still exists.
Friend of mine did enjoy HoJo’s and bore
a grudge against Ground Round, a chain (which I did like years ago) started by the company:

>>In 1969, Johnson tried a new concept, Ground Round. It was successful. Though not a Howard Johnson’s restaurant, the Ground Round chain was company-owned and franchised, thus increasing the Howard Johnson Company profit.(wiki)

I don’t know if Ground Round actually replaced HoJo locations; maybe he figured HJ was scaling back that to focus on the new brand

Ate at one (Sambo’s) in Florida in the 70s.
The name came from nickname of the founders.
I guess they played upon the Little Black Sambo story (black or Indian kid chased by tiger, who turns into butter or something).
Moment from The Jeffersons:
“Maybe I’ll start a restaurant.”
(One character, who’s black,
joking):”...Sambo’s?”

Stayed at a HoJo hotel in Albany NY and ate at the HoJo restaurant next to it. Average.

Marriot is alive and well. There’s a little HoJo’s in all of their franchises.

I saw recently that Burger Chef started that whole burger chain ball a’rollin.

Mrs. jimfree and I, on first date in June of 1978, saw an outdoor community production of Twelfth Night and then adjourned to the Columbia MO Howard Johnson’s for coffee and hot fudge sundaes with peppermint ice cream. We were definitely falling for each other, but the sundaes might have helped that cause.

Sambo’s are still out there. They were big in the Seattle area mid-60s.

The weather tomorrow in old virtue signaling attack recently until it was found out that the trademark was Indian and evidenced by the tigers that were present in the iconography.

We could never get Dad to stop at Howard Johnsons. There is a ghost of one just outside of my mothers hometown out in west Texas that always caught my eye. It has been closed since the 80s

I’ve never heard of it.

Other than as a naval base and vacation site, there is no reason that Hawaii is a state.

Biggest group of liberal leeches that bring very little to the 'mainland'.

You should stop proclaiming your ignorance.
