“An assistant coach makes that much money that he can be fined $100,000?”

The top paid assistant coach in the NFL is Monte Kiffin with the Bucs when he signed a three-year, $5.1 million contract.

Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson has a four-year, $3.6 million deal.

Jack Del Rio, the new head coach in Jacksonville, has a five-year deal averaging $1.3 million a year.

As for head coaches, Bill Belichick’s total net worth is estimated to be around $35 million and makes $12.5M annually.

By contrast, the lowest-paid head coach in the NFL is Mike Vrabel, who is the head coach of the Tennessee Titans. Vrabel makes an annual salary of $3 million.

But there are incentives written into all the contracts that can more than double the existing payouts to include assistant coaches contracts. The money is staggering. And the TV contracts are lucrative.

But here’s one that is not well known. On average, first year NFL water boys make $53,000 per year (according to Stack.com). However, that’s just the salary for beginners. For professionals, their salary can be much higher. I mentioned incentives for the players, in addition to the official salary, water boys receive other perks. Specifically, they can receive many items and free gear souvenirs from players, such as jerseys and other signed items as they have easy access to the team. Kind of shrinks the worth of the players and coaches doesn’t it.
