I think I read that the Ukrainians also turned down a compromise plan that just charted a course for the freighters through the minefield.

What they want is for NATO to take over the harbor, and thus protect Odessa and the southwest from attack. Part of the problem is Turkey, who is upsetting the Syrians by attacking the Kurds, and threatening to start a war with Greece over a few disputed islands.

The entire story is a nothing burger and a failed attempt at anti-Russian propaganda.
First, Ukraine never disputed that it mined ports to deny Russian access.
The story of “Russian mines” appeared when many of them floated all around the Black Sea.
You know, it’s a bad thing and according to the media only the Russians are doing bad things.
Regarding the wheat export, there is a Moldovan port of Gurguleshti just 100+ miles away. It makes little difference for farmers to which port to take the wheat. It is actually exported in record numbers as we speak.
