They're no longer just considering it. The initial ten-year contract has been awarded to SIG Sauer for up to 250,000 'XM5' and 'XM250' rifles designed to fire a 6.8mm round to penetrate body armor at a distance. Already a “done deal”, and Sig got the contract. Chambered in 6.8mm
