Jimmy was a Naval Academy grad, class of ‘46, a midshipman during WW2, and part of Rickover’s group of nuclear engineers as an officer. Jimmy knew what it was to be patriotic and love America. Of course, as a Democrat, he was always wrong about most things, and he’s become progressively more America hating as he’s gotten older and drifted ever further leftward with the rest of his wretched party. He’s been most consistently wrong in supporting the Palestinians most of his career. But at the time of his Presidency, I think it fair to say that Jimmy was patriotic and loved his country. He’s certainly always loved God, which makes him a relic in today’s Democrat Party.
I agree with that. I think his major problem was that he thought he was smarter than he really was. Especially in political matters.
His problem was that he was arrogant and stupid in many important subjects, and those things he needed some humility in.
I have to say, of all the things Carter did, the only one I can even credit him for in any way was the disastrous Eagle Claw operation.
He dithered and dawdled for so long that when he did pull the trigger, it made the failure nearly a given.
But the reality of the matter is, at that place, at that time, that kind of operation had too many aspects of it that could (and did) torpedo it.
All the issues that we saw at the end of the Vietnam War with the Mayuguez Incident were never addressed, and four years later we still hadn’t fixed those fundamental organizational and operational issues, and instead of 18 killed, we had 8 killed and had to watch some damned mulllah poke with a ballpoint pen at the charcoal remains of one of our servicemen.
The fact that I would even give an ounce of credit to Carter on that score displays how horribly inept he was at everything else.
