So we opted for a reverse mortgage and have zero house payments. We had/have enough cash to pay for our home updates and increasing PG&E and water bills.

We discussed this with our adult sons, and they said if the last one of us was carried out feet first had just spent the last $, that would be perfect economic planning on our part.

Many if not most of our good neighbors got similar advice from their families and financial people.

Thank you for your reply. We did briefly consider her getting a reverse mortgage. We may well revisit the idea soon. It's either that, or a second mortgage. Since she has no mortgage or liens on the property, she could borrow enough to make the mortgage payments, make repairs and pay her bills.

I need to gather my siblings together with my mom and have a pow-wow.
