Last year, the United Methodist Church accepted Isaac Simmons, who regularly preaches dressed as a drag queen under the name Ms. Penny Cost, as a candidate for ordination. Since that time, Simmons, who serves as an associate pastor at Hope United Methodist Church in Bloomington, Illinois, has challenged basic theological concepts, projecting a worldview where divinity rests not in God but in queerness.
In a church preparing to split over LGBTQ issues, the drag queen pastor, who embraces queer theology while barely attempting to plaster on the basic tenets of Christian theology, has become a lightning rod. Conservatives argue that Simmons’ role as a celebrated figure among progressive Methodists proves the church has become so radically liberal as to forswear Christ. Progressives promote Simmons and invite him to preach in drag as a way to challenge the conservative position on sexuality that the denomination officially still takes.

Simmons has published a new video of himself performing slam poetry in what may be his most provocative repudiation of traditional Christianity and embrace of queer spirituality.
“God is nothing,” the self-described “dragavangelist” repeats throughout the poem, adding, “the Bible is nothing” and “religion is nothing.” In the end, he concludes God and the Bible are nothing “unless we wield it into something.”

He speaks of God not as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, but rather as the source of queerness, describing him as “nothing but a drag queen with a microphone of biblical f***ing proportions,” “nothing, but if she were, she would be ‘yes, queen’-ing her way down the runways of Paris and Montreal,” and “nothing, but if she were, she would be a seamstress of divide couture, weaving together string theory and self portraits to form the fiercest gowns of queer existence.”

Yes it will.
It never seems to work, does it, unless it is some variety of deaconess.
Even if they aren't, so many of them are sympathethic to their B.S. and go to bat for them.
It's my belief that the term "gullible women" there is not necessarily strictly biological, but rather the ruling tenor of the times, such as the feminist/LGBTQ insanity ruling everything in the globalists' spheres today. So it's not just the females; it's the males happily giving up their innate nature to embrace woke demasculinization. But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, [b]unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. —2 Timothy 3:1-6
I completely agree; there is a legitimate need for deaconesses and female licensed teachers for women and children. Perhaps even prayer counselors with additional pastoral counseling training, for women. But as pastors, counselors or Sunday school teachers of adult males, no.
Could be, but has he been under any kind of discipline since he blossomed?
....Ms. Penny Cost.....
That’s blasphemy!!!!
Every time you turn around they're adding another letter, or not a number of symbol. Can't keep track of it.
That is PRECISELY why the Global Methodist Church is being formed!
I do not believe that the Global Methodist Church will support or “play nice” with the LBGTQ insanity.
The Methodist church in town is very conservative. While I personally do not care for women pastors, I have heard some great teaching by women. The pastor of the church sets the tone; though it’s not good to church hop, you also shouldn’t stay in a particular church if the pastor is a dud, or giving false teaching, among other things. We’re in between churches, and really need a church home. I’ve listened to the local Methodist church, and this pastor is the real deal. I hope he stays. (We don’t have a Lutheran church here. But if I were inclined to go to a Lutheran church, it would have to be a Missouri Synod.)
Most UMC congregations anywhere have probably been or trended liberal for a long time. The conservative congregations are likely a minority.
Someone told me a loooong time ago that the word “United” in the title of an organization means it’s hidden COMMUNIST.
The exception is, of course, the United States, which is not an organization.
I hope you are right. But transgender fake piety is just around the corner, begging foolish women to take sympathy on it because they believe they are real. See post 102 just above.
Fortunately, the African Methodists are now going to provide ballast to the denomination as a whole. It's a perfect irony, and God bless them! These crazy sexual ideologies (that require third parties, pretending, and medical intervention to reproduce) originate among the idle upper classes in first-world academia. LGBTQ makes no common sense to the economics of those living in third-world countries, where marriage is a vital aspect of family survival, not just a lifestyle enhancement. Expensive divorces, therapy, joint custody, pronoun name tags? Don't make them laugh!
All that said, how're ya doin', Taxman? Long time, no see. Miss those old Friday nights at WRAMC!
Glad you found a good congregation. I really miss the days when you could go into just about any mainstream church in the U.S. and not have your blood pressure go up due to apostacy from the pulpit. Or hung in banners all over the place.
Sadly, so. It's only us old-timers who remember the beautiful traditional liturgy, scriptural hymns, and sober-living social conservatism of the Methodist Episcopal Church, that began its ruin when it merged with Evangelical United Brethren in 1968 and has never stopped rushing towards the bottom since then.
Yes, I agree.
I hope I am right, also!
If it were not for the AFRican Methodists, the United Methodist Church would have changed the Discipline to allow homosexual clergy and homosexual marriage.
I am optimistic that we can make a clean break FRom the UMC (our church has already voted to do so) and stop the homosexual insanity!
I miss the WRMAC FRidays! I think we made a difference, and am glad that I was able to participate.
HST, I sure do miss the FRee Republic FReep camaraderie! Those were some great days and nights! And GREAT people!
Glad your church made the right decision. Being here on the border of the North, most of the congregations are likely to go left. Sad. I had to leave UMC over 20 years ago because it might as well have admitted gay pastors then — several of mine in two different cities were either gay and denying it (but influencing the Youth groups), or they were married to lesbians and flauting their vows and their dishonesty. Two of them are in Baltimore and Washington now, both having come out and both heading so-called Reconciling UMCs, which have a big ol’ “spurting rainbow” logo.
Yes, FRiend, being at WRAMC was life-changing! A great group of folks, you included!
