Which heritage? The slavers or the heart cutters?

I salute you for a great post. Concisely presents the information that both sides were trashy scumbags.

I remember a TV talk show in possibly 1969 or so where Timothy Leary expounded upon the spiritual elegance and total superiority over the West of the Aztecs and their closeness to the earth and nature, blah blah. an anti-drug fellow in a suit and tie countered: Their drug use which went way up quickly at one point is the best explanation for their savagery in cutting open living people and sacrificing children. They never regained their cultural prominence. Leary looked sort of surprised but couldn't give a good rejoinder.

Cortez conquered the Aztecs with less than 500 Spanish soldiers. They had a lot of help from other indigenous people who were fed up with being exploited and enslaved and ritually sacrificed by the Aztecs.
