Lunacy. His only choice was Sessions who recused immediately and turned over the AGs office to that rat faced acting guy. Trump was forbidden to fire anyone else after Comey by McConnell. Trump could only appoint from McConnell’s approved bench and McConnell refused to go into recess for the entire Trump Presidency. so he could not make recess appointments.
And you know all of that.
“And you know all of that.”
I also know Trump never took McConnell on. He had the bully pulpit. He had the loyalty of 70%+ of the GOP voter base. He could have turned the tables on McConnell and told him he was forwarding an appointment to the Senate and expected it to be approved or he was going directly to the American people.
If Trump was truly incapable of taking on McConnell he shouldn’t run again. Should he run and win reelection in 2024 he will have McConnell as majority or minority leader and McCarthy has house speaker or minority leader in the house. If they have veto over his appointments, he will be in the same situation he was in during his first term, being undermined by the people critical for his success.
And you know all of that. In addition you know Trump made some lousy appointments including his personal lawyer (Cohen), Omarosa, Sean Spicer (lasted 45 days), Anthony Scaramucci (lasted 10 days). McConnell had nothing to do with them. It was frequently reported Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump had tremendous say, if not veto power, of Trumps executive branch appointments that didn’t require Senate approval. Many Bush bureaucrats and GOP insiders filled those jobs.
You are correct.
