Trump expected to upend Wisconsin GOP governor primary by endorsing Tim Michels

Former President Donald Trump is expected to endorse Republican Tim Michels in the Wisconsin gubernatorial primary, snubbing the state’s former lieutenant governor and injecting a new level of chaos into the race, two sources with knowledge of the plan told NBC News.

The endorsement of Michels, a multi-millionaire who owns a construction company, “may be imminent,” one of the sources said, but cautioned that nothing is a certainty with Trump until it happens. A Trump endorsement of Michels would not be surprising to Wisconsin GOP insiders who say the former president had been leaning in that direction for weeks. Michels was initially a long shot candidate but his increased TV spending in recent weeks has made him more competitive.

The endorsement would deal a severe blow to Rebecca Kleefisch, who served as lieutenant governor under former Gov. Scott Walker and had been the GOP establishment favorite.

Kleefisch, Michels and state Rep. Timothy Ramthun all previously traveled to Mar-A-Lago seeking Trump's endorsement in the GOP primary.

What’s a Kleefisch? Are they in season? How long do they have to be?

You live in NY state.

Maybe you should stick this one out.

Perhaps she’s a more of the same-next in line candidate. Might not be good enough to win in November and we’ve got to break the mold.

Gary Johnson won the NM governorship as a contractor. Only 40 years old at the time. Same old-same old gets old.

I’m very close to WI and have watched Kleefisch for years, especially during the capitol riots, and she’s been a solid conservative. But it could be Trump has better vision or is aiming for a different outcome.

Don’t know anything about her, but this smells like Bush League to me. Walker was one.

I think she’s more conservative than Walker, actually. Tim Michaels won’t beat Evers. Just my opinion.

Evers is dead meat after letting Kenosha burn

Kleefisch is a solid conservative. The fact that the RNC is backing her is irrelevant.

Let me tell you about Michels. He ran a horrible campaign way back in 2004 against Feingold. This is one of the rare races where we don't need an outsider. Kleefisch was the Lt. under Walker. That's good enough for me.

He’s Tommy Thompson’s pick so he can play the outsider but Michaels IS the establishment candidate in Wisconsin. Will vote for Kleefish because she was the part of a team that first walker term and recall that stuck to their guns and got the desperately needed reforms (lime Act 10 done) done. Things went of the rails when. He decided to run for President.

Kleefish has some major appeal issue with a portion fo the republican woman base though and no question its a problem.

Micheals still hasn’t given a clear answer whether or not he played a role in the lobbying by the road construction industry against walker in the race against Evers and the guy really hasn’t lived here for a long time with residence being on the east coast.

Definitely do not trust him as a candidate.

Trump’s endorsement wouldn’t change that.

It seems those 3 are better than Tony Evers who said Republicans will burn books if elected...

Scott Walker was arguably the greatest Governor WI ever had.

He turned a blind eye to the illegal alien inundation, the hallmark of Bush Leaguers everywhere.

I lived and worked in Wisconsin during Walker. He is NOT Bush League, and Kleefisch, from what I remember, was okay, too. Walker took the most attacks I had seen by any political figure until Trump. Senate Republicans were assault while out to eat. The Madison establishment coddled the radicals who took over the capitol to try to stall the passing of ACT 10. Substantial voting reform including voter ID took place. Walker took the teachers' unions on.

He was governor of Wisconsin, not Arizona. His hands were more than full going after the Teachers' Unions, the anti-mining people, the Planned Parenthood flacks, the lefties seizing the Capitol for weeks (and never accused of rebellion).

The residence issue is bogus. His construction company had two large contracts with the NY subway system which he moved to supervise

There is a group in WI called Voces de la Fronterra (Voices of the frontier) who seem to think they are on the border.
And before he decided he was running for President, he did little except kiss up to Voces de la Fronterra.

Well, if they check a map, they will see the upper peninsula of Michigan gets in the way of Canada, and Mexico is quite far off. I worked for three years in Madison, Wisconsin, and most of the "immigrants" were Asian students and Indians from India in the workplace. Milwaukee might have some Latinos because of Chicago.

Compared to the southwest (where I now live), it wasn't really a major issue of local interest.
