Environmentalists are threatening legal action in an attempt to halt the development of a new gasfield in the North Sea that has been given the green light by the UK government.
Climate experts reacted with anger after the government announced it had given the Jackdaw field, to be developed by the oil multinational Shell, “final regulatory approval” on Wednesday.
The business secretary, Kwasi Kwarteng, said: “Jackdaw gasfield – originally licensed in 1970 – has today received final regulatory approval. We’re turbocharging renewables and nuclear but we are also realistic about our energy needs now. Let’s source more of the gas we need from British waters to protect energy security.”
However, climate experts said the decision, announced on the eve of the long bank holiday weekend, flew in the face of clear evidence from scientists that countries had urgently to cut greenhouse gas emissions to avoid the worst effects of the climate crisis.
According to a recent scientific study, nearly half of existing fossil fuel production sites need to be shut down early if global heating is to be limited to 1.5C, the internationally agreed goal for avoiding climate catastrophe. This goes beyond the call by the International Energy Agency in 2021 to stop all new oil, gas and coal developments, a statement seen as radical at the time.
Ami McCarthy, a political campaigner for Greenpeace UK, said approving Jackdaw was “a desperate and destructive decision” and proved the government had no long-term plan.
“They could immediately shave billions off bills, get a grip on UK energy demand, create thousands of jobs, boost our economy, tackle the climate crisis and avoid future crises – if they just upgrade homes to be warmer and greener, and invest in clean and cheap renewable power.

2.) It reduces the USA’s independence from the rest of the world so that in times of war, such as our proxy war with Russia/China/Iran/Saudi Arabia/CSTO/North Korea/Cuba, etc, the USA will suffer and be greatly weakened and unable to go it alone.

I get hooked watching russian and other nationalities videos of trucks and other heavy equipment. In just about each case they are belching out huge clouds of black smoke and I think about how they must be laughing at us playing by some rules to clean the atmosphere.

They are using bs stats to create bs goals. Man is not causing climate change ge. There isn’t nearly enough co2 to blanket the globe to prevent heat fro escaping- nowhere near enough. We could mut,ip,y existing businesses 100 fo.d and still be nowhere near enough co2. Thr amount of co2 in the atmosphere doesn’t even amount ot .o5% of,the atmospgere- Mas co2 is just 0.00136% of the atmosphere. Again, nowhere near enough to blanket the globe and cause global warming. Almost all.the heat escapes, except for a few very small areas where there might be concentrations of clouds and co2, and even then the majority of heat escape I. Those areas as well as the co2 becomes saturated with molecules, allowing the rest of the co2 to pass by u impeded. The ones that do get a sorted and released make their way back to earth, but cool in the process as they quickly reach equilibrium.
Picture it like this. Picture an Olympic sized pool of 90 degree water. Now Picture four 5 gallon pails of 100 degree water (which represents man’s co2 which amounts to 0.00136%)- pour those pails into the pool. What happens? “Catastrophic warming”? No, because the hotter water almost Immediately reaches equilibrium with the surrounding cooling water. There simp,y is nowhere near enough hotter water to cause “catastrophic warming” inside the pool.

Yeah, because insulation just grows on renewable trees. Greenies are people in need of actual jobs, like hauling wagons of freight from point of production or ports to places where it is sold.
