Years ago I inherited my daddy’s Blackhawk 44 Magnum. When I moved to mountains I thought I’d better get something more formidable than cowboy load. I asked the old-timer at the gun store what he had to stop a bear if need be.
He sold me some loads he rated at 1100 foot pounds and promised it would blow my friend’s leg off of we ever got attacked by a grizzly when were hunting. I’m guessing in the heat of the moment getting that sidearm out an aimed properly is a challenge.

I don’t know, man, my wife’s grandma had one dig into her trash can out on her back porch, she grabbed her broom, went out on the porch and yelled at the bear, “Git outtta here you sonofabitch!”. The bear left.

Yes, I posted on a thread for this same story last week.
In NH the tell you to bring in your bird feeders on April 1st.
When bears come out of hibernation they will routinely go to back yard bird feeders for an easy meal.
So, I will post the exact same thing:
