What is stupid is 32 degrees freezing and 212 degrees boiling. Plus, centigrade temperatures can be broken down into tenths of a degree.

Give me the metric system any day of the week.

Give me the metric system any day of the week.

You can have it for free.

Funny you should phrase it that way. I have long argued for a metric week of 10 days. This would, of course, require three more days. After Friday would come Reaganday, Trumpday, and Freeperday.

I have already forwarded my common-sense suggestion to the Bureau of Weights and Measures. I expect to hear back from them soon.

“Give me the metric system any day of the week.”

You can have my part of it.
Like new, still in original packaging.

To each his own, of course. But the freezing/boiling point of water (at sea level, of course) doesn’t play that large a role in most of our lives. Negative temperatures in the winter are much more common using Cº than Fº. And, Fahrenheit degrees can also be broken down into tenths of a degree.

The metric system is much easier to convert by simply moving a decimal point left or right—it does have that going for it. But I find the system’s penchant for creating a new unit rather saying what it is, so cycles per second becomes a Hertz. Instead of Newtons per square meter, we get a Pascal. And it has to be Newtons/square meter instead of Kilograms per square meter which everyone in metric world would understand because kilograms measure mass not weight or force.

Imperial units are fundamentally based on humans and the metric system is based on how French intellectuals thought the world was and behaved in the late 18th century.

But as I said, to each his own.

I simply don’t care either way. I use both systems interchangeably and can convert from one to the other in my head.

Um, so can Fahrenheit temperatures.

What is stupid is using Celsius for everyday weather and indoor temperatures. Celsius might be fine for the laboratory, but it makes no sense in the real world. In Canada, vehicles with auto temperature HVAC increment their settings in half degree intervals. In the US, one degree increments work perfectly. And we all know that when it hits triple digits, it's going to be a scorcher. The rest of the world can keep their stupid metric system. It's only positive point is that it's a base ten system. Other than that, it makes no sense at all.

I will never understand how anyone could not prefer metric. I am perfectly comfortable with both and tend to regard anyone who isn’t as a mental retard, even a below average child can easily learn both.

What’s really funny is that Ben Franklin helped create it, and Thomas Jefferson pushed hard for it because having the US, France, and everyone but England on one common system would have been to our advantage.
