Nobody has the political will to do that anymore; it appears to be easier (for the elites) to just pretend they are assimilating by throwing money at them.
The Elites want to exterminate the underclass. The underclass (unterklasse?) is unneeded for labor now that we have AI and it uses up too much of the Earth’s precious resources.
At this point it seems we’re just competing with other countries to draw CONSUMERS - to compete with two huge countries with populations over a billion each. Our elites are trying to build a competing herd of serfs to dominate.
