Students trapped inside a classroom with a gunman repeatedly called 911 during this week’s attack on a Texas elementary school, including one who pleaded, “Please send the police now,” as officers waited in the hallway for more than 45 minutes, authorities said Friday.
The commander at the scene in Uvalde — the school district’s police chief — believed that 18-year-old gunman Salvador Ramos was barricaded inside adjoining classrooms at Robb Elementary School and that children were no longer at risk, Steven McCraw, the head of the Texas Department of Public Safety, said at a contentious news conference.
“It was the wrong decision,” he said.
Friday’s briefing came after authorities spent three days providing often conflicting and incomplete information about the 90 minutes that elapsed between the time Ramos entered the school and when U.S. Border Patrol agents unlocked the classroom door and killed him.
When the border agents were set to enter the room, there were as many as 19 officers in the hallway outside, McCraw said.
Ramos killed 19 children and two teachers inside the room, but his motive remains unclear, authorities said.
There was a barrage of gunfire shortly after Ramos entered the classroom where officers eventually killed him, but those shots were “sporadic” for much of the 48 minutes that officers waited in the hallway, McCraw said. He said investigators do not know if or how many children died during that time.
Throughout the attack, teachers and children repeatedly called 911 asking for help, including a girl who pleaded: “Please send the police now,” McCraw said.

The police are following the apologies later type of law enforcement.
I call BS on that. I’m saying he’s lying through his teeth to cover everyone’s butt.
I think it is showing that the Marxists are trying to make this about the AR15. The guy had almost an hour to do what he wanted to do. He could have used a single shot pistol and had the same body count. Hell, you can handloaded 30 rounds of 38 special in thirty minutes and still have plenty of time to kill those kids.
The police were there... containing the incident. They made damn sure no one got in or out of the school.
barricaded inside adjoining classrooms
so go into the ones he is not in.
Yes. Who was in charge, how did they come to make the decision to stand down?
children requested good guys with guns, and they got cowards with badges.
Even if they are not fired, how could they continue to live in the same community?
>> They were ordered to stand down.
The ultimate message is for the good citizens to seriously arm up, form alliances, train, have plans, and be prepared to defend at any cost.
It’s going to get worse.
It has always been my opinion that policies like that condone cowardice. Cops are supposed to be heroes.
Without bragging, in my former job (Corrections), we had that very same policy. Let them fight/riot, stand and watch, and wait until 'sufficient force' arrived. I can't tell you how many times I disregarded that policy and averted a much larger situation. And it worked out EVERY time and I lived to tell the tale.
America needs heroes.

The good news is the local cops all passed their diversity training and didn’t harass the person of color with a gun.
When seconds count the police are only an hour away.
The adjoining classrooms I’ve seen have an accordion type wall in between but each have their own doors.
I’m anxious to see what kind of doors.
We had steel doors with a small window. After Columbine we had to cover those windows and keep doors locked at all times.
At another high school my class was in a mobile unit.
We were sitting ducks. A shooter could simply shoot through the walls. No place for us to hide in a trailer.

Here’s the thing. Just for posting this it’s now possible that you might get a visit from the brave heroes of law enforcement who might be upset that you want to do their job for them, arm yourself, and maybe even resist them when they tell you to sit on your hands while innocent children die.
My point is that if good citizens seriously arm up, form citizen’s militias, and are prepared to defend at any cost then the very first people they should prepare to defend against are the same cowards who failed to go after one child murdering lunatic.
“It was the wrong decision,” he said.
Yet cops keep making this wrong decision.
