Russian life expectancy has a huge gender disparity. 10 years difference men living shorter lives than women. As best people know, the reason for this (per studies) is NOT alcoholism. Something else is going on. Men 67, women 77. (overall 74). Note Covid deaths in Russia until THIS year have been mild so next year’s life expectancy number will be worse. Pop growth sub 1%, some years, sub 0% other years. Latest year is -7% and gets far too much attention since it has been positive 2015 to 2019. But again, above, note Covid.
Russia fertility is 1.52 children/woman
US population would similarly shrink were it not for immigration. Growth rate 0.14%. Fertility rate 1.664. Slightly better. Life expectancy 76.6, not a lot better than Russia despite the 10 year gender disparity not being present (it’s 6). Covid the past 2 years has taken 1.8 yrs off US numbers.
Immigration is 3 per 1000 people. Russia immigration 1.54/1000.
No significant fertility diff.
