Why not? Modernity isn’t protecting AFVs in this conflict. Might as well brig in the vets.
Maybe we should send over some 70-year-old B-52s.
Let’s face it folks, Ukraine is fighting a brave battle, but it is only a matter of time before Russia takes over the Donbas region. It’s going to be bloody and Russia will suffer loses, but Russia has the advantage here.
[NOTE: This is not an endorsement of what Russia is doing. It’s just observing what is happening on the ground]

Next week T55s; next month T-34s, the real vets!
Ukraine might consider buying M-60s. I think there may still be some in use around the world.

Russia has the same advantage that the North had in the Civil War: Lots of bodies and leaders willing to sacrifice them to exhaust the enemy.
Putin seems intent on using the General Grant method of simply overwhelming a tactically equal (or slightly better) enemy with numbers of bodies. Just keep sending more units forward. Eventually, Ukraine will either run out of bullets or men.
> but it is only a matter of time before Russia takes over the Donbas region <
Yep. It’s gone. And that should be the basis of a peace treaty. Russia gets the Donbas. But they pay Ukraine a large amount of gold for it. Everyone saves face.
This is a deal Trump could have pulled off. But I have no confidence in Biden’s team. If they can make something worse, they will.
RE: Russia gets the Donbas. But they pay Ukraine a large amount of gold for it.
And if Russia refuses, what can Ukraine do about it?
Unfortunately, to the victor go the spoils.
What Ukraine can do now is prepare themselves for Russia’s EVENTUAL plans to take over ALL of the country because that has been Putin’s desire all along.
And after Ukraine, the following countries should be prepared: MOLDOVA, Romania, Poland, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
It won’t happen anytime soon, but with Russia’s successful takeover of Donbas, it will only embolden them.
I had a 1971 Chrysler Newport. It was quite the tank.
I don’t know why he would want the rest of the country it is in ruins..
T-34’s would work.
One of my brothers learned to drive in a Chrysler Newport of that vintage. He got rear ended and there was not much damage to his car but the other car was totaled.
There were or still are some Shermans around.
LOL, my infantry bias is showing. I was thinking, M-60s ??? what is a machinegun going to do to a tank. Then I realized.
“Russia has the same advantage that the North had in the Civil War: Lots of bodies and leaders willing to sacrifice them to exhaust the enemy.”
Very accurate.
Good observation.
