Beijing has sacked its top health official, state media reported on Wednesday (May 25), as the Chinese capital battles a surge in COVID-19 infections despite the country's strict zero-tolerance policy.
The city has reported hundreds of cases in recent weeks in an Omicron-variant-fuelled outbreak - its largest since the start of the pandemic.
Millions have been ordered to work from home with the vast majority of bus and subway services suspended, while thousands of people were relocated to quarantine hotels after a handful of infections were detected in their residential compounds.

Not “despite”, but “because of”.
It just shows how useless this lockdown stuff is. Either you get covid now or you spend billions to get it later.
They have had two years to expand hospital capacity to handle any “surge”. There is no rational excuse for lockdowns, masks, or mandatory vaccinations.
The people in Red China must be heartily sick of the Communist rulers after this.
Good thing for the rulers that Red China has “Common sense gun laws”.

Musical chairs. _Someone_ always has to take the fall.
The lockdown wasn’t even designed to limit C19 at any stage. It was a dry run exercise in locking down an entire huge & educated population under the public excuse of a disease and the domestic appeals to patriotism in a time of war.
There is something else teed up to follow all this, so the exercise is terminated, an official is designated to draw the short straw and it is now *on to the next^.

The CCP virus from the outset was about "test, test, test" and lockdowns being advised by various national flavors of Leftists.
The people responsible for the sacking are now being sacked.
Hubris. They must have control over everything. This may be their ultimate undoing. There are some things that cannot be controlled, but that doesn’t seem to deter those who live to control.
With this mild derivative, the intelligent thing to do is nothing at all. Let it run its course. Dragging it out like this trying to keep it from spreading doesn’t seem to be a winning strategy (See Sweden).
