Why is it our decision?

Biden, NATO, Russia, Ukraine, Somalia and the Globalists w/Robert Barnes

Fascinating discussion of the war and how support for it is beginning to crumble. The Deep State needs a quick exit or is going to be faced with humiliating defeat (which is why Kissinger is calling for finding an exit ramp.)

I remember a story from the Griffith translation of “The Art of War”. It’s a bit long but the gist is this: “Land is the foundation of the State. How could one give it away?” Why people think land-for-peace is a viable diplomatic strategy is beyond me.

RE: Why is it our decision?

Because Ukraine has our money and is getting more.

Two Trump walls worth to date. It has the irony of a rapist charging his victim with the cost of contraceptives.

Besides, Russia has already grabbed Crimea. If the Budapest Memorandum (nukes for peace) didn’t result in peace, Donbas and Donyetz for peace won’t do it either. Putin’s total humiliation a la Winter War of 39-40 in Finland guaranteed peace for 80 years. So let him get humiliated again, and have peace. Then have a referendum in Crimea, Donbas and Donyetz, with international observers and three options: Stay in Ukraine, become independent states, and reunify with Mother Russia (who makes Norman Bates seem sane).

David was not as strong as Goliath, either. Neither was Israel stronger than Egypt, Syria and Jordan in 1948 or 1967, nor as strong as Egypt and Syria combined in 1973.

Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.S. Oksana Markarova: “Peace at any cost is not in anyone’s interest, because it’s not possible."

This is true.

The counter-argument is that it is in everybody's (even Russia's) interest for Putin not to find himself in a position where he could save himself personally only by using tactical nukes.

But Markarova's statement is still true: peace through weakness doesn't work.

Most people are moving past Ukraine. Bigger fish to fry and all, and Russia won’t attack a NATO country.

Economy bigger priority than punishing Russia: AP poll

Oh, so it is pay for play. We are giving Ukraine $40 Billion, and wealthy and nearby NATO member Germany is paying Russia Rubles for gas.

The Russians certainly don’t need more “living space”.

Always with your far-fetched China/Mexico analogy!

1) Give up Crimea. The Crimeans have mostly NOT identified as Ukranians anyway.

Ante bellum, the Crimeans identified (ethnically) as roughly one-third Ukrainian, one-third Russian, and one-third Tatar.

In 2002, when I was vacationing there, I conducted an informal poll. The (for me surprising) result was: Most Crimeans favored either remaining with Ukraine or independence.

“Ukraine is not as strong as Russia.”

Then why is Ukraine WINNING, at least according to the Daily Mail?

1. Um, who cares that the Daily Mail is not entirely unbiased? What news source today is entirely unbiased?

2. Umm, because the most-powerful military alliance in history is now increasingly supporting Ukraine?

3. Um, because Putin is a terminally-ill, self-deluded idiot?

Why is it our decision?

Because, if we (the West) said that we were suddenly ending our involvement (provision of military and financial aid; sanctions against Russia), the situation would rapidly deteriorate to Ukraine's disadvantage, and we'd have another "Frozen Conflict Zone," a gaping wound in the middle of Europe, for the next 30 years - and no one, save Russia, wants that.

Excellent rejoinder!

And the United States was not as strong as the world superpower Great Britain in 1776!
