Border Patrol would not be chasing an illegal that lives in town that would be ICE. They have the authority to do so, but generally speaking we only arrest people that just crossed, we’re found out at the checkpoint or arrested by local law enforcement.
At times Border Patrol agents can and do backup local law enforcement.

I am aware of that. I was just pointing out that just because someone is in HS does not mean they are here legally.
Per latest reports he was not “illegal” but I will wait for more details.
Side note NPR gave this story a brief mention and then jumped to spin the Georgia election

Incorrect. The Border Patrol was given jurisdiction over any area 100 miles or less from the border. Roughly 90% of the US population lives in this quasi-constitutional zone where they can be detained without reason and held indefinitely and even deported without hearing regardless of their US citizenship.
