I agree with you about those giant hats. You see them there, North Korea, etc. Ive always wondered what the back story is on those.
Military hats often have backstories. I just recently learned that the spike on WWI German helmets was there as a mounting point for those long horse tail manes they wore on parade back then. Brits still wear them. If you think about it, an Indian war bonnet is also fairly commical too. But these ridiculously large Russian hats, I have no idea where or when those began.
