That just reminded me of one of when many years ago I requested and got my deceased father's full navy records. After waiting a few months got a stack of paper about an inch thick. A lot of very cool/interesting things in it.
After enlisting, he was sent to a naval training center from his home town, a bus ride of 8 hours. He was put in charge of the 2 other guys and was given 3 dollars, one dollar per man (I guess for snacks and stuff for the bus trip). "Way to go dad! They recognized you as having leadership potential over those other guys..." :) Another one was what he listed as hobbies on his enlistment form. If your dad was in the military and deceased, I highly recommend doing this.
