Right on cue. We know that all the positive monkeypox cases can be traced to an Antwerp ‘gay fetish festival’ (whatever the heck that is, but guaranteed to be perverse), but EVERYBODY needs to be concerned. Reminds me of AIDS when EVERYONE was at risk. Not falling for that BS.
There is not reason to lock down anyone who gets this. Perhaps mandatory wearing of trousers would be a better step. Like “ass masks.” Because that’s how people are getting it.
One of the reason AIDS disproportionately hit homosexual men is that engaging in anal intercourse can cause breaks in the skin that enable viruses to pass through. The same thing may well be happening here.
Exactly. Most of the cases are being identified at sexual health clinics, with the lesions first appearing “in the genital area”. Lesions usually begin on the face, sometimes hands, then sometimes spread to the rest of the body, including genital area and mucous membranes of the throat and mouth.
Skin-to-skin contact involving any area of the body can transmit the virus from monkeypox sores via tiny breaks in the skin of the other person and infect them, too.
It’s not all that contagious, with an R0 of 1 or less.
Dunno, but we’ll find out soon enough.
Probably a combination of not having a population innoculated against small pox and risky deviant behavior.
