Armed Feds Pay a Visit: Amish Farmer Faces Hundreds of Thousands in Fines
IJR ^ | 5/21/22 | Jack Gist

Amos Miller, an Amish farmer who runs a holistically managed small farm in Bird-In-Hand, Pennsylvania, grows and prepares food in tune with nature, the way he believes God intended. This seems like a sound idea to the approximately 4,000 customers who purchase Miller’s meat, eggs and dairy products from his private, members-only food club.

The federal government, however, appears to disagree. A federal judge recently ordered Miller to cease and desist all meat sales, Our Organic Wellness reported. U.S. marshals were deployed to search Miller’s property. They inventoried his stock to assure he doesn’t sell or slaughter more animals. In other words, the feds shut Amos Miller down.

Miller claims he is being persecuted by the federal government for practicing his religious freedom to grow and prepare food according to his religious beliefs.

That’s where they feed, instead of in a warehouse where they never move and are fed manufactured food. In some places they’re called free-range or cage-free chickens.

I have no idea what ‘pasture-raised’ eggs are, do you?

Chickens don’t lay eggs in a pasture.

No, but the farm hires high school students over summer to pull all the eggs out of the coop as they're laid, then store them in the pasture until they're ready to be shipped to market. Provides jobs for HS kids, and gets you fancy labeling for double-pricing!

It is that.

Mr Jack Gist really sucks at providing details.

The guy is being accused of slaughtering animals and distributing the meat across State lines without Federal inspection. How is an Amish farmer “distributing” such a quantity of product over State lines? Does he live on the State line and bring a ton of meat to the Farmer’s Market in the other State every Sat morning? (Even then, direct sales isn’t really under the term ‘distributing’, so is he providing to various retail/restaurants?) Is it because out-of-State people stop by and buy food in person? Is he selling it to an actual distributor, but then why is he in trouble and not them?

Bird in Hand, PA, is in Lancaster County, PA. On the border with Maryland.

There are a lot of Amish markets in the Baltimore/DC area. Much of the stuff sold at those markets comes from Lancaster County. That is probably the connection.

To: Veto!

I take a handful of supplements daily and have for 40 years. Must be doing something right—I’m 85 and have zero health problems except a stupid doctor wrecked my cornea and am almost blind in one eye. Waiting for a corneal transplant so I can drive on freeway again.

I’m 81, stay away from medical people, and so don’t have a doctor. I too take a few supplements every morning. I’ve only spent one overnight in the hospital in my life and that was for observation due to an auto accident. So far so good!
