We have definitely lost the wisdom of the elderly in our society. I blame Social Security, mostly. It was “the great divorce” that most wanted - the seniors to live happy and free, and the young to be rid of their elders.
Now, we have six-year-olds going through puberty. The “extended family” has re-emerged in a twisted fashion as the young parasitize off of their parents, living under their roof long after they are already reproducing.
I am not sure that “blame” is particularly helpful, but the elderly should have known better.
We’d be a lot better off if more citizens had that attitude!

You’re not old until you are old. But it is a stubborn fact that humanity does strive for a long life if there is any joy, however unobservable by others, still glowing in their heart.
Death due to depression is much more real than thought by many. As long as you can joyously wake up and anticipate what the day shall bring, you shall continue to wake up, until such time as you make peace with the failing systems. Your body knows its limits, but it shall obey your will in every matter.

Overkill. But, if he’s a lousy shot, it’ll do the trick.
