Bill Cosby once said something like that and was roundly roasted by the left. As one would suspect what he said was totally reasonable and I’m paraphrasing “... if you want your kid to be successful in the USA, name them an American name. If you want them to successful in Africa, give them an African name.”
Trevor Noah when he first came to America had some funny bits. (Not so much now).
One was he meets some black guy whose name was something like Zimbago Wasynobia. “Yeah - I changed it to honor my African heritage!”
“But you’re FROM Africa - that’s so cool! What’s your name brother?”
“Um... Trevor.”
