“I’m baffled by conservatives who support Russian, up to and including slandering Ukrainian soldiers.”
We’re baffled by people who claim to be conservative yet have no problem with us sending billions of dollars of cash and equipment to a far way country that has nothing to do with us except for that country being used in the first impeachment of President Trump. Also, Ukraine is a corrupt country, a very corrupt country.
Claims such as “slandering Ukrainian soldiers” are not a thing. If this does happen, it’s in such a small number as to be unnoticed in comparison to the actual slanders of Russian soldiers (there are dozens if not hundreds or thousands of postings on FR accusing Russians of killing civilians, of being incompetent, etc. Where are the similar postings regarding Ukrainians?).
The elephant in the room though is the unrelenting over-the-top support for Ukraine by the Democrats and the media.
That should make us think very hard before we consider demonizing Russians.
There is indeed tremendous slander of Ukrainian soldiers. Look at this thread, many on FR automatically refer to Ukrainian troops as “Nazis”. There’s neonazi elements in Ukraine, eastern Ukraine, Russia, and all over Eastern Europe. Separatist and Russian soldiers have been shown using Nazi imagery and sporting nazi tattoos. Some are probably real Nazis, but “Nazi” isn’t the bogeyman word there that it is in the West, and many view it as more akin to “edgy”. I remember some US Marine Scout Snipers got in trouble for using an SS flag. I don’t suppose our US Marines are Nazis, they’re young guys thinking that the SS had a reputation for being scary and “badass” and the two S’s made it even more convenient to use. A mistake, for sure, but I don’t think the USMC was or is crawling with Nazis. I see people very transparently pointing to images of some Ukrainian troops with Nazi imagery (Slavic pagans also use some symbols), and think that’s a trump card….”ah ha, I win, they’re Nazis!!!!” While ignoring the same imagery used by some Russian troops…To say nothing of the fact that Russian equipment and tanks fly the hammer and sickle.
Both sides have murdered POWs. The Russians have murdered civilians as well. I don’t think it’s kind of appropriate to cheer whenever some 19 year old Russian conscript dies, but the Russian soldiers are in the unenviable position of being part of an aggressor nation’a military. War is a crime, as some say, and I’d be happy for all this to end. But at the end of the day, the Russians invaded, no the other way around.
