Deborah Samuel, a 200-level Home Economics student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, was on Thursday said to have made a comment in her school’s WhatsApp platform which her Muslim colleagues considered blasphemous of Prophet Mohammed and killed her before setting her corpse ablaze.
In Sokoto metropolis, on Saturday protesters in their hundreds trooped into the streets to express their displeasure over the detention of two suspects arrested by the Police, while also declaring a manhunt for other suspects who appeared in footage of the gruesome murder which trended on social media.
During the protest, attempts to attack the Palace of the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, were resisted by security men on the ground.
In view of this Sokoto state Government declared a 24-hour curfew in Sokoto metropolis which has currently been relaxed as the Governor cautioned people to maintain peace.
This incident sparked a nationwide outrage and reactions from government officials and others trailed.
President Muhammadu Buhari condemned the mob killing and ordered an immediate probe into the incident.
The Sultan of Sokoto also condemned and urged Muslims to also remain calm as the authorities concerned are currently working to ensure Justice is served.
The British Government and the Christian Association of Nigeria joined the calls on the government to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Also the the Northern Governors’ Forum (NGF) condemned the killing of Deborah.

The Muslims in our own Congress prove by their actions they don’t migrate to a country to assimilate but to destroy the present government and establish a worldwide Caliphate under Sharia Law.
