Authorities in South Carolina have recovered the long-missing remains of Brittanee Drexel, the 17-year-old New York girl who vanished while on a 2009 spring break trip to Myrtle Beach.
Georgetown County Sheriff Carter Weaver announced during a Monday press conference that Drexel's body was found on May 11 — and that police have charged 62-year-old Raymond Moody with murder.
Drexel's parents were present for Monday's announcement.
"This is truly a mother's worst nightmare," Dawn Drexel told reporters. "I am mourning my beautiful daughter today, as I have for the last 13 years. We are much closer to the peace that I have been hoping for."
In addition to the murder charge, Moody is also charged with with kidnapping and sexual misconduct.

Moody has been in custody on $100,000 bail since his May 4 arrest on an obstruction charge.
He had been identified as a possible person of interest in the investigation way back in 2012.
Weaver said that Brittanee's remains were identified through dental records.
A cause of death was not discussed. Weaver did not take questions from reporters.
Drexel was still a high school student when she left her hometown of Chili, N.Y., with friends for Myrtle Beach, where she planned to visit relatives. But her parents had no idea she was traveling so far.

"I told her I just felt something was going to happen to her," Dawn said. "I just felt it."
Drexel was last seen on surveillance video leaving a beachfront hotel in Myrtle Beach.

Possibly another girl or a total fabrication.
Federal Bumbling Incompetents.
Beautiful young girl. What a waste

Could be a different girl in the 2016 case. Girls disappear all the time. Or could've been total BS.
But, yes, incompetence from the FBI seems to know no limits.
He should be turned over to male relatives who can do as they please with him.
Raymond Moody served time in prison in California for raping and kidnapping a nine year old girl. California released him and he moved to South Carolina. Apparently, he's a suspect in other disappearances as well.
Also on the shame list are the people she went to Myrtle Beach with, who weren't really her friends. They were older party girls and they pretty much ditched her and left her to fend for herself.
I remember reading about it all shortly after she went missing. Her so-called friends are truly disgusting human beings.
“Moody is a registered sex offender who spent 21 years in prison following a 1983 abduction and rape case in California involving a 9-year-old girl.“
So yeah, let the rapist of a nine year or out of jail. He won’t do it again. Not much he won’t. That sort of deviant WILL act again and again and again until you kill him.
“Beautiful young girl. What a waste”
Not a waste, a tragedy. Beautiful and that caused her death, as is sometimes the case.
Disappearance
That night, around 8 p.m., Drexel left her friends at the Bar Harbor Hotel beachfront to walk 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south down South Ocean Boulevard to visit a longtime friend who was staying at the Blue Water Resort. Security cameras at the Blue Water Resort showed her arriving. She was carrying a beige purse and wearing a black-and-white tank top, flip-flops and shorts. The cameras captured her leaving around 8:45.[5]
Drexel was texting her boyfriend, John Grieco, who had stayed in the Rochester area because of work commitments.[9] They had been texting back and forth but around 9:15 her texts suddenly stopped and Grieco began calling her friends in Myrtle Beach to see if they knew where she was or what had happened. When those efforts failed, he called Brittanee’s mother Dawn, who had not known that her daughter was in Myrtle Beach until she was contacted.[5] Dawn called Chad and then the Rochester police, hoping that they could establish communications with their counterparts in South Carolina. Repeated calls and texts to Brittanee’s phone went unanswered.[5]
Ping from the 2016 thread.
Absolutely !
I wonder how many other young girls he's murdered.
A press conference today said he had been a suspect this whole time.
I remember seeing a tv show about her disappearance. This girl was out of control and did whatever she felt like.
I read the article but there was no mention of what evidence ties this guy to this girls murder.
So you are saying she deserved it?
A lot more is coming out.
He confessed and led police to her body where she was positively ID'd through dental records and DNA.
Also, he strangled her after raping her. Police believe she was murdered the day after she went missing.
So what? Talk about blaming the victim. You must be very old.
yes, because if she was plain it’d be okay for her to be murdered...
