I believe at one time, voting in a foreign election automatically caused loss of American citizenship. Is it OK now?

This is absolutely no longer the case. There are now extremely few situations that involve an automatic loss of US citizenship. The rule is that there are potentially qualifying acts, but those acts only cause loss of citizenship if you intend that to be the result. You will still have to pay thousands of dollars for a certificate of loss of nationality.
