A Speech for the Ages Aptly Describes the Corruption of the Western Elites

On April 20,1653, Oliver Cromwell came to the English parliament and gave a brief speech to his country’s assembled leaders. In that speech he condemned their self-seeking, greed, corruption, trickery, thievery, and venality. He looked them in the eyes and told them the truth about how they had cynically sold out the country and the people whose interests and well-being they were tasked with protecting.

It is striking how accurately Cromwell’s words apply to today’s Western elites. Selfish, egoistical and rapacious, all they care about is how to enrich themselves at the expense of common people whom they shamelessly manipulate and fleece in their insatiable quest for ever more wealth and power.

The Covid scam is one of their recent schemes. First, they spread fear and locked up the populations, destroying the livelihoods and prospects of hundreds of millions while they watched their own wealth spectacularly grow. Then, having injected more than sixty percent of the global population with ineffective and dangerous pharmaceuticals, they made off with hundreds of billions of dollars while their victims now suffer from chronic recurrent infection and a range of other serious ailments such as strokes and heart attacks. And we are not even speaking about the hundreds of thousands killed by those improperly tested substances.

And when the Covid scam began falling apart in the face of failing boosters and mounting evidence of harm, they deftly switched the subject and put their grubby hands on Russia. Having pushed NATO to Russia’s doorstep despite the pleadings and warnings from Russia’s leaders, they have needlessly provoked a conflict which they are now intent on drawing out for as long as they can.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. I remember discussing Cromwells speech in high school and applying it to the west and communism back then. The speech still applies, the discussion no longer occurs in schools.

Your comment aptly describes the problem. If Cromwell's admonition was followed today, and the Augean Stable that is Congress was cleaned out, how long until the old corruption reappeared? It seems that human nature is such that “reformers” once given a taste of power become like those they have replaced. While this problem may be insoluable, one partial remedy is term limits for all elected offices.

With Milley and the other undesirables that infect today’s military leadership, I’m not so sure that could happen. Nightmare situation. We should never, ever elect dimocRAT’s or GOPe denizens they tarnish everything they touch.

The dim presidents for my entire life, Truman was prez when I was born, seems like their top objectives have been to destroy the military. They’ve been pretty successful too, just look at all the services top brass including the wokest Sargent Major of the Army Mike Grinston the Army has ever had. This guy is all in on the woke du jour.

We need to Hoover up all the wokesters in the academia, Congress, media, military and in the corporate world and dump the bag full of them into North Korea.

“… one partial remedy is term limits for all elected offices.”

…one partial remedy is term limits for all elected offices AND STAFF.

There, I completed your statement. It would be a gigantic mistake to term limit the elected official while allowing the staff to remain.

Can you say Omnipotent Swamp? Because that is exactly what we will get if we’re foolish enough to enact term limits without including staff. That goes for the janitors too. Purge everything, if we’re going to go down that road.

We don’t need more Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman types. Always remember Staff Rules, and don’t you think for a moment they don’t know it too.

True, Cromwell was a tyrant, but he spoke some memorable phrases. My favorite, which applies to so many of our leaders today was his command in dismissing the Long Parliament: “Get thee hence, for you’ve sat too long for any good you might have done!”

Methinks it applies today to our CONgress.

It does....but he’s hardly the one to make it given that he was a complete tyrant.

I am good with term limits, some here have chastised me for speaking it. This site is a very strange brew of viewpoints.
