Unfortunately, that is often the sad and evil reality of the history/Bios of our world's leaders: past, present and future.
Divine intervention is real.
“Nor will anything change in Russia once Putin is gone.”
That depends on how, why and under what circumstances Putin becomes no longer in power and no longer to be in power.
Even China’s CCP has not been able to be monolothic on all things forever. After MAO and the “gang of four” and until Deng no one imagined China’s CCP would embrace markets to the extent that they did. And, in Russia/USSR itself, before Gorbachev no one thought Russia/USSR would adopt the policies Gorbachev attempted. Nor did anyone forsee the internal reactions and results from Gorbachev’s attempt at change. No one thougth Gorbachev would be the linchpin leading to the dismemberment of the USSR just 75 years after Lenin rose to power. Yet it happend. And yes, there is an awful lot about Russia that did not change, internally, in Russian political culture. But that is not to say nothing changed nor that nothing great changed. If the later point was true then Putin would not have it as his mission to reverse many changes that resulted from the end of the USSR.
Again, what follows Putin cannot be written only by looking at what has not changed with Russia. Conditions and circumstances can still change Russia just as they shaped Russia in the past.
“True, that hasn’t changed, but maybe if Russia gets bloodied enough in Ukraine then China, like other countries, will finally get the message that hostile military attacks are now really costly ... especially when going against an enemy that’s good in high-tech (like Taiwan)”
I think only grave and massive economic calamity in China, with nations around it not faring as badly, can foster an end to the CCP monopoly/dictatorship and its unneccessary need to take over Taiwan. I say unnecessary because taking over Taiwan has zero national interest to the true domestic affairs and conditions in and of mainland China. The only necessity is purely political on the part of the CCP as an act of “completion” of the civil war the party won. But the people in China themselves outside the party of no natural interest in that, no matter how much the CCP churns up their support for it it. It is 100% for the party, not “China”.
If and when the party, the CCP, loses enough in the minds of the people, so too will fall mainland support for taking over Taiwan. But only then.
Do they use teleprompters in China?
Guo Wengui aka Miles Kwok aka Miles Guo had been saying Xi had health issues many times back in 2021. Furthermore, according to Guo, Xi wants to invade Taiwan before he dies.
He wants to Tai-One on before he goes.
It doesn’t matter who is in charge in China. The two big issues still remain. First, they do not respect intellectual property but are a copycat society. This dates from Confucian times. The other is their structuring of foreign investment that facilitates theft and forces people to kowtow to the Chinese government. A rational economic policy in this US would tell our swinish CEOs to diversify out of China with all deliberate speed. We cannot allow them to have a veto power over American policy because of their manufacture of computer chips and other products.
Xi looked fat and happy on several occasions at the Olympics in February, sitting and watching events for extended periods, including sitting with Putin for the opening ceremony.
Xi’s traditional treatment might help if it includes lowering blood pressure and keeping calm at all times. Retirement is the best action to achieve that. In a related piece of good news, Putin will probably have cancer surgery soon. Will it have mestasticised?
Xi isn’t a good communist....yet.
Add Dementia Joe to that list. If this shakes out with Trump being the last man standing I'm going to suspect divine intervention.
Problem with that is if Joe strokes out, we get President Harris. If she goes too, we get President Pelosi. I don't see how either of those would be an improvement.
Except when someone on the left is taken out, they are always replaced with someone worse, like cuomo and hochul, for example.
It’s hard to rejoice over this.
How did Trump regain it?
He will regain it in 2024... ;^)
So who are the backups in order of probability to replace Xi?
