The most abused groups in the country are 501(c)(3). They all almost all engage in partisan political action on elections. They should not be tax exempt in any case. They need to pay their fair share.
I am the unpaid full-time treasurer/CFO for a 501c3 that operates a no-kill animal shelter and provides low-cost Spay Neuter, etc., in a rural low-income county. The Board is unpaid and does hands-on work. We are required to submit 30-page detailed tax returns. We provide hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of services annually, with no public funding.
Legitimate charities play a major role in civil society and public welfare OUTSIDE of government, using funds donated by free individuals. Should we be punished and taxed because scumbags abuse and evade the law with government connivance?
