Get over it Maine.
Going back to masking is a pointless panic move, yes, but Maine has reason to panic. Indeed, Maine is perhaps, in microcosm, the poster child for this country's failed pandemic response, a response based on the worthless (and, in fact, dangerous) COVID "vaccines."
Starting in August 2021, highly-vaxxed Maine began to incur an increase in deaths involving COVID, compared to the same time period in 2020, when no one in the state had yet been vaxxed. Specifically, for the August-December 2021 time period, Maine experienced an increase in COVID deaths of some 174%, compared to August-December 2020.
Things do not appear to have improved with the advent of 2022. COVID deaths in January 2022 in Maine were up 14% compared to January 2021. For February 2022, COVID deaths were up 100% (i.e., 186 in February 2022 compared to February 2021, when Maine incurred 93 COVID deaths). Complete data for March 2022 have yet to be compiled, but with 75 COVID deaths already recorded, Maine has exceeded the COVID death figure of 38 it incurred in March 2021. (Mortality data compiled by the National Center for Health Statistics can lag by many, many weeks, which explains why, even in May 2022, the final figures for March 2022 are not yet in.)
And it isn't just COVID deaths. "All cause" mortality in Maine for the August-December 2021 time period was up some 16% compared to August-December 2020. For the first three months of 2022, "all cause" mortality in Maine is up 13%, compared to January-March 2021.
Maine is a veritable dumpster fire of "public health" -- which is to say "governmental" -- failure. So, yes, Maine "public health" officials are panicking, doubling down on their own incompetence.
