Russia's top commander General Valery Gerasimov has been suspended, a top adviser to the Ukrainian president has claimed, while a clutch of other officers have been sacked or arrested amid a rumoured purge of top brass.
Oleksiy Arestovych, a veteran of military intelligence and one of President Zelensky's inner circle, claimed late Wednesday that Gerasimov - the chief of staff of the Russian army - has been suspended as Putin looks for senior commanders to blame over his blundering invasion of Ukraine.
Arestovych, speaking to dissident Russian lawyer and politician Mark Feygin on YouTube last night, said: 'According to preliminary information, Gerasimov has been de-facto suspended. They are deciding whether to give him time to fix things, or not.'
He added: 'The commander of the first tank army of the western military district Lieutenant General Sergei Kisel has also been arrested and fired after the first tank army was defeated near Kharkiv.'
Two further army commanders have been fired due to heavy battlefield losses, according to information released on a Telegram channel run by the Ukrainian interior ministry, which also claimed the commander of the Black Sea fleet has been sacked and arrested and his vice admiral has been placed under investigation.
Arestovych stressed that his information is 'preliminary', but it comes after Gerasimov failed to appear during Russia's Victory Day parade in Moscow on Monday which he was widely expected to attend. It also comes after he was reportedly wounded by shrapnel in Ukraine when Putin sent him there in order to turn the war around.

Arestovych might be popular with the Ukrainian public, but his relationship with experts can be fraught. He has been criticised for a lack of expertise, and for lying.
He’s even admitted it himself. In 2017, three years after the Donetsk and Luhansk regions were partially occupied by Russia-backed separatists, Arestovych wrote on Facebook that he had 'lied a lot since the spring of 2014', tweaking numbers of people who had been wounded on both sides, for instance. He added: 'It was pure propaganda work, prompted by Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine.'
Bortnkik added that Arestovych 'makes a lot of predictions and only some of them come true. He predicted Russia would collapse in 2014. He said the Kerch bridge [connecting Russia to Crimea] would never be built and that Ukraine would regain control over the Luhansk and Donetsk regions by November 2014.' None of these predictions came true.

Zelenski, soon after his rise from comedian to maximum leader, has banned all opposition political parties and jailed the leaders of those parties. Zelensky has also banned all independent television, newspaper and media outlets except for his own state media. Zelensky’s State security apparatus monitors Internet traffic of Ukrainian citizens and arrests them for questioning the state narrative. He uses oligarch financed Nazi militias to protect his own regime and enforce compliance and brutality amongst his Armed Forces. And He also banned all males 18-60 from leaving the country because he is force-conscripting them for cannon fodder in the Donbas. Apart from all that, it’s a hell of a democracy. That’s what the uniparty voted to piss away 40 billion to protect.
When it’s all over a few people will get very rich and a hundred thousand civilians will die. We never learn.
