Capital controls imposed by Russia have turned the ruble into the world’s best performing currency this year, though not many people can pocket a profit on the rally.

The ruble resumed its advance against the dollar on Wednesday as the Moscow Exchange reopened after two days of public holiday. It’s now up more than 11% against the US dollar since the start of the year, surpassing the real’s 9% advance to become the top gainer among 31 major currencies tracked by Bloomberg. The offshore rate is up even more, about 12%.

Yes: when the ruble came from less than a penny to being worth slightly more than a penny, you can call that a gain if you want to, and technically it is.

And, while the dollar can smile proudly as the victor over most other significant world currencies, it is only because it is the least filthy home in the ghetto.

The ruble is not a free floating currency anymore.

The official exchange rate is set by the Kremlin.

Which has no relation to the exchange rate on the street.

Yet another “success” from Dementia Joe’s crazy sanctions. The more sanctions he imposes on Russia, the better the Ruble does, and the higher food and gas prices rise in America.
Dementia Joe forgets the Russians have forced the Germans to pay for natural gas in Rubles.

I have one -- the sanction war launched against Russia has been a total failure.

The only regime changes that are going to occur because of this sanction war will occur in western Europe.

Joke post?
Are you even in Moscow?
Ever used the Ruble before?
Using the Ruble now?
How the heck would you know the value of the Ruble in the street?

I agree with your first statement, and I mostly agree with your second.

There may be some Regime Change outside of Western Europe, however I fully understood your meaning and Agree with that.

Thanks.

I prefer to think of the Dollar as the most virtuous woman in the whorehouse.

Retard post?

How do you know what happened 200 years ago or what happens across the world?

Do you think all knowledge comes from personal experience?

Russia’s “free float regime” is on paper only.

It is fake.

Ruble is up more than 11% against the US dollar. Vlad sure knows how to manage his nation’s currency. Start a war, get Biden to sanction you and drive up energy prices and your nation’s revenues and strengthen your currency. I guess Biden’s sanctions proved to be a formula for success in strengthening the ruble and Russia’s revenues. Thank you, sir. May I have another sanction.

Analogies are not a good way to understand Currency and Economics.

What would happen when your Ghetto Landlord evicts you for looking at cheaper rents elsewhere, or your Virtuous Whore refuses to give you the Happy Ending because you patronized one of her fellow Whores?

Such are sanctions ... on you.

Easy as pie once started down that road.

How do you know what happened 200 years ago or what happens across the world?

Big difference between history and what's happening now.
For example I was right there when 9/11 happened. Quite different from reading about it.

Do you think all knowledge comes from personal experience?

Most knowledge does, especially when you are talking about the value of the Ruble in the street in Moscow right now , when you haven't even been to Russia before.

Russia's “free float regime” is on paper only.
It is fake.

Nope.
YOU are fake.

hmm seems like the Ruble is not rubble.

Russia has valuable commodities other people want. They will have absolutely no problem selling their oil, food, fertilizer, timber, metals, etc etc.
