No, we never met them head on within a single country. We drew a line and dared them to cross, which they didn’t. We’re closer to war with Russia now than we ever were during the cold war. If Ukraine is worth a nuclear war which could kill everyone in the U.S. and half the world, it must be pretty vital to our existence.

You need to read up on the Cold War as there’s at least nine separate occasions where nukes were almost exchanged. Plus NATO and the Soviets did a lot of killing during that time.
