Aside from the Donbas in the east, a large swathe of southern Ukraine is currently under Russian control, including most of the Kherson region.

Russian forces are preventing civilians from leaving the area. Yet thousands have been making journeys, fraught with risk, to get out.

Our correspondent Gulliver Cragg sent this report from Ukrainian-held territory.

That’s odd, somehow the journalist neglected to mention that the UN says 12 million people have fled Ukraine.

Why is he pretending it’s unique to Russian held areas?

Guess it’s the narrative he wants or was told to sell

#3. That's odd, I actually watched the video.

He's only talking Kherson where people are trying to escape, not the entire country. The difference between Ukrainian and Russian held areas is, Russians won't let people use their cars to escape.

Russian will tell drivers to turn around so people have to leave on foot, or confiscate their cars, or shoot at cars as people try to escape.

Thanks for your clarifying info.

I understand the passion for people to want to respond that they don’t read or view complete post.

It’s an easy progression to understand, even for a Pooty tool:

1) The Russians have invaded my country and are 200km away: Leave now while it’s easy.

2) The Orcs are 40 km away: Leave now B4 it is too dangerous.

3) The fighting is here. Run when there’s a break!

4) We’ve been occupied. Better dead than Red.

That isn’t true, there are lots of testimonies of people being prevented from leaving Ukrainian held areas.

There are dozens of people who testified to this in Mariupol for example. It’s known that Azov kept civilian hostages, including one lady who they themselves filmed underground, and the the same pictured people testified they were prevented from escaping. There are testimonies from other areas also. Ukrainian troops have set up in places where they use civilians as human shields and then when their artillery is hit they publish to an eager press saying look, we are victims

Also men are not free to leave the country, it is illegal.

I read the whole post.
I know he was talking about the Kherson region.
Like almost everything you post, it’s all very deceptive and lacking key context.

I think it is bad journalism to fail to note that the UN says 12 million Ukrainians have fled throughout the country, that it isn’t limited to Russian held areas. The way the article is written leaves a false impression of the reality.

It is also bad journalism to fail to note that there are huge numbers of Ukrainian citizens testifying that they have been prevented to fleeing (held hostage) by Ukrainian government troops.

It would also be useful context to mention that there were hundreds of thousands of refugees between 2014 and 2022 (before the current escalation of conflict), as ethnic Russians were systematically tortured and ethnically cleansed by extremists. The same extremists the lying press pretends doesn’t exist.

Poroshenko bragged that ethnic Russians (Ukrainian citizens in the east) would live in bomb shelters from his continual bombing, while the people who liked would live free.

More than 800,000 Ukrainian citizens in the east applied for and received Russian citizenship, yet the lying press pretends the entire country is on the same page to hate ethnic Russians and deny their autonomy.

It is also bad journalism to fail to note half the country voted pro Russian before 2014, yet the press always talks as if everyone there is on the same page utterly against Russia. The government bans Russian language in schools, bans political parties, and tv stations. Zelensky succeeeded in imprisoning the leader of the #3 party, and tried to do so to the #2. This is the great Democracy they praise in the press.

There are lots of men who are grabbed from ordinary occupations and forced to the trenches, who do not want to fight at all. If they leave they will be shot. No one cares about them. People in Europe are happy to send weapons for Blinkens “forever war” but no one cares if Ukrainian men are butchered down to the last man “to weaken Russia”.

Big billions thrown all around for the defense industry, as Europe dumps their old stuff on Ukraine and signs contracts for American new toys. The politicians and enablers are getting fat bank accounts and they don’t care how many Ukrainians die.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported Monday that more than 12 million people have fled their homes in Ukraine since the Russian Invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022. Over 5.6 million have left for neighboring countries and another 6.5 million people are estimated to be displaced inside Ukraine.

Yes.

No problem. Now you understand & are differentiating between the millions of people that have fled their homes in Ukraine nationally since the Russian invasion vs this article posted: “In Ukraine Kherson Region, Civilians flee Russian Held Territory on Foot”

Hmm. 12 million plus have gone “west” or to non-occupied places in Ukraine, vs an alleged 800k that seem to accept Russian rule. That gives me a “voting with their feet” ratio of roughly 15:1

The Russian option seems very unpopular.

Over a million ppl fled the Donbass starting in 2014 when the Azov battalion and other nationalist militias were sent to the area to shell and bomb them 24/7 for 8 years. As a result, there were fewer ppl left in the area to begin with. Apparently they got tired of living in bunkers for months at a time so they escaped to Russia or Europe. Both sides have suffered in this war.

About 70% of Ukrainian refugees who fled across the noth and western borders into Europe are Russian speakers.

The Russian option was wholesale rejected by all of Ukraine, including most of its Russians, in 2014. That’s what Euromaidan was about.

Russian collaborators in Donbass loved the idea that the country was about to be taken over by Moscow following an engineered foreclosure stitched up by Yanukovych, on 17th December 2013.

Of course most Ukrainian Russians were happy to be close to Russia but that doesn’t mean they wanted Russian loan sharks to bankrupt their country, and Kyiv, and then replace the elected government with Moscow-appointed administrators.
