The ferals who were smashing & grabbing inside the eyewear store should have been shot by armed employees. Plausible self defense explanations could have been given.

I’m not disagreeing with you, but the state of the law, as I understand it, says you cannot shot someone to defend property (although bank guards seem to be an exception) only to defend yourself and the jury gets to have hours to decide if you were under threat rather than the 1/2 second or so you have.

But it is obvious that this level of lawlessness cannot continue forever. Either we get it under control or we make it physically more difficult for the thieves to do this. In Costa Rica only a few customers are let into a bank at a time and the armed guard inside is watching you closely. Homes are built like fortresses with walls, fences, gates, razor wire, etc. and businesses with high value wares are defended like banks are; obvious armed guards inside and out. Even little convince stores have a big guy at the door to let you in.
