We also have the separation of powers. The executive branch (FIB) cannot just run into the judiciary’s offices and start investigating the leak. I would like that to happen though just this once so the justices can get a taste of how ordinary citizens not aligned with the ruling classes an deep state are treated ... givernment at all levels running over the rights of private citizens and without any consequences.

My theory is that he would not and did not leak to the press. He leaked it to a friend at the White House or DoJ and asked for help getting leverage to use in convincing one justice to flip. Why? Roberts is 100% political, he crafts everything he does through a political lens. He always wants to (1) get the political result he wants while (2) not seeming political. This issue above all others will be remembered as perhaps the biggest legacy of his court. And it's going the wrong way in his mind.

So he asked for help. 'Any ideas? Anything in those FBI files? Hate to be a dirty SOB to a colleague but desperate times and all that'. Then he was shocked when THEY leaked it. That wasnt supposed to happen.

Notice regarding the investigation he's pulled a Bill Barr. Lots of outrage, but the action speaks more to coverup than to indignation. He's going to let the court police investigate. They are not an investigative force. Didn't ask for the FBI. He wants people who lack the skill needed and who report to him to do the investigation. Nobody will ever be identified, and that's how you'll know it was Roberts.

The Marshal of the Supreme Court, Gail A. Curley, has years of experience in Army JAG roles. No reason she wouldn’t know how to investigate such a leak.
