Russia's envoy to the United States has told Newsweek that leaders of the U.S.-led NATO military alliance do not grasp the true gravity of a potential nuclear conflict erupting, as a tense war of words among powers looms over the ongoing fighting in Ukraine.
As officials and other influential figures of the U.S. and allied nations accuse the Kremlin of summoning the specter of nuclear war over NATO's support for Ukraine against Russia's devastating invasion, Moscow's ambassador in Washington, Anatoly Antonov, disparaged what he called "a flurry of blatant misrepresentation of Russian officials' statements on our country's nuclear policy."
In fact, he said it was those in the Western bloc that have proven irresponsible in their handling of what has been described as one of the most dangerous moments since the Cuban Missile Crisis six decades ago.
"The current generation of NATO politicians clearly does not take the nuclear threat seriously," Antonov told Newsweek.

Former President Donald Trump lashed out against Russian President Vladimir Putin for repeatedly using the “nuclear word,” claiming that if he were still president he would try and stop the strongman from ever saying it again.
We take their threats seriously. If they make good on their threats we’ll respond accordingly.

My sister voted for plugs because she’s afraid that President Trump was going to get us into a nuclear war with China now where she got that idea in her little pea brain I haven’t a clue. I have not talked to her for over a couple of years and she voted for the idiot letting this happen.
Tell him hes the one not taking it seriously. We will burn them to the ground and make sure he and putin are among the dead. That’s the only way to answer people like that.

I certainly didn’t expect that scene.
If Trump was still in office the Ruskies would never had invaded Ukraine. Trump is strong and, just as important, he’s unpredictable. You can’t predict what he would do.
OTOH, Biden is weak and the Ruskies (and everyone else) knows it. And weakness invites aggression.

We used to take the Soviet nuclear threat seriously as a Soviet preemptive strike wiping our our bombers and ICBMs could allow them to conquer the world with what survived our counter attack.
Now if Russia launched, most of the rockets would fail, they would probably nuke a few of their own cities, by accident, and we would obliterate what was left with our arsenal.
They have no path to winning a nuclear war and thus will not start one.
I don’t give a damn. That’s not the issue.
