Congressman Alex Mooney has a 15-point lead over fellow Republican incumbent David McKinley among likely voters in West Virginia’s newly-formed 2nd Congressional District, according to the latest edition of the MetroNews West Virginia Poll.
Mooney has ridden the strength of an endorsement by Donald Trump, plus the growing population of his base in the Eastern Panhandle.
McKinley has been trying to counter with his own endorsements by Gov. Jim Justice, a Republican, and Senator Joe Manchin, a Democrat. McKinley also has been touting benefits of the $1.2 trillion congressional infrastructure bill.
The poll shows Mooney leads 48 percent to 33 percent over McKinley, while GOP candidates Mike Seckman of West Union received 3 percent; Rhonda Hercules of Wheeling got 2 percent; and Susan Buchser-Lochocki of Morgantown received 1 percent. Thirteen percent were undecided.

Primary is Tuesday.
The endorsement is like gold in these races
I wonder where the Neocons are as Trump rolls up victory after victory? Oh yeah, they’re too busy trying to get WW3 started over Ukraine...likely haven’t noticed what’s happening here yet.
The state population is shrinking. That's why we lost a CD. This "growth" is in an area filling up with swamp rats. The Eastern Panhandle is a bedroom community for DC. It is also home to Mooney who dragged his carpet bag to Charles Town when he couldn't, even as head of the MD GOP, get re-elect there. After all, politics is his family's business and he was/is just keeping it alive.
I don't like McKinley much either. Just wanted to take the rose colored glasses off FReepers wrt this GOPe candidate.
All RINOs must lose. We must never compromise in any way anymore with the democrat party.
I just took a look at their congressional scorecard ratings (across several ratings agencies and years) and came up with the below averages. Mooney is clearly the more conservative candidate. This is totally objective based on their actual votes.
Mooney: 94%
McKinley: 68%
I used Freedomworks, Heritage and ACU, the past three years each.
“The poll shows Mooney leads 48 percent to 33 percent over McKinley”
Great news.
Go Mooney..
Good, the people of WV have recognized that McKinley is a Bush League Republican.
Now if Trump would recognize that about Rubio and endorse a challenger.....
They are counting on Cornyn and Tillis putting their Amnesty Gang back together and passing amnesty before we can re-elect Trump.
Rubio and Hoeven MUST be replaced this cycle.
I was half listening to the Trump rally before Trump arrived yesterday. Mooney was speaking. The key part that I picked up was Mooney’s opponent (he didn’t call him by name) voted to establish the January 6th Commission. (I just fact checked that. It is true.) That is the the kiss of death. I hope Mooney kicks McKinley’s ass.
He voted FOR the Harris amendment to the Anti-Lynching Act. That amendment says that even *speaking* ill of islam is considered a hate crime by the Federal gov't.
Mooney is my Congresscritter and as I've said before, neither of these two *Republicans* is worth a bucket of cold goat phlegm.
McKinley is a RINO! Mooney is a conservative that is why he got the Trump endorsement.
Mooney is a member of the House Freedom Caucus, co-led by Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio. The Freedom Caucus represents the most conservative block of lawmakers in the House. The conservative Club for Growth, where he received a 87 percent lifetime score for his conservative record compared to a 51% lifetime record for McKinley.
As for the carpet bagger thing- I would welcome more like him to move to WV, my home for 69 years. McKinley is Sponge Bob without the shorts.
And yet, despite that vote, he is far and away the better candidate from a conservative perspective as Cotton1706 proved by his ratings.
How much is an endorsement from a dimocrat worth the McKinley? Obviously not a lot. If anything, it was a drag.
Good!!!
Maybe WV’ians are waking up about their love of USG pork
And that non-natives are not the devil and are sometimes necessary.
I would be tickled to see my prediction be wrong!
I agree with you but McKinley crossed the threshold of no acceptability twice!
So make an exception this time.
Yeah...he’s the lesser of two evils.
Now, where have I heard that before?
After all the rain we’ve had/ are having, I plan on mowing all day Tuesday. That way at least I’ll be doing something worthwhile.
