he like others: John Hiatt, Mose Allison, Dixie Dregs, are better known inside the business than they are outside of the business.
This one was covered by Jimmy Buffet. Here is the original:
the irish sick note
Well, I rise up every morning at a quarter to eight
Some woman who's my wife tells me not to be late
I kiss the kids goodbye, I can't remember their names
And week after week, it's always the same
And it's Ho, boys, can't you code it, and program it right
Nothing ever happens in the life of mine
I'm hauling up the data on the Xerox line
Then it's code in the data, give the keyboard a punch
Then cross-correlate and break for some lunch
Correlate, tabulate, process and screen
Program, printout, regress to the mean
And it's Ho, boys, can't you code it, and program it right
Nothing ever happens in the life of mine
I'm hauling up the data on the Xerox line
Thanks Fiji! Had to look him up as I was not familiar with him. Undoubtedly this song was known to Van Morrison and I would not be surprised if he took a cue from ti to write his own song on cleaning windowa.

The weather's mighty hot, boys

To buy my bread and meat"
As a teen in Dayton, OH we had a teen club in the lower level of a shopping center.
The stage was 12” high so we were “right there”.
Saw the Vogues, Hollies, Simon&Garfunkle...and many more top groups at the time.
The warm-up group before S&G (and stayed on as the backing band) was a local group called the McCoys (”Hang on Sloopy”). They were led by singer/guitarist Rick Zehringer who later moved to LA & changed his name to Rick Derringer who became a highly acclaimed musician in his own right playing Steely Dan among others.
