History unwritten... Earlier this week, a leaked draft opinion revealed that the Supreme Court appears ready to strike down Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark ruling that made abortion a constitutional right. Some companies, including Apple and Amazon , are responding by proactively offering financial support for women who need access to reproductive healthcare. But most companies have so far been silent.
Fortune magazine reached out to 30 of the biggest US companies for a reaction to the leak, but almost all gave “no comment.” The Chamber of Commerce declined to comment, and the Business Roundtable (think: a group made up of 200+ top CEOs ) did “not have a position .” Social issues and corporate activism… are becoming increasingly intertwined, including over abortion. Last year Bumble , Yelp , and others helped form the "Don't Ban Equality" coalition following Texas' abortion law banning the procedure after six weeks. But other major recent social issues and movements have spurred companies to respond, too:
After a police officer murdered George Floyd in 2020, dozens of leading companies pledged a collective $50B to combat racism and increase diversity in their ranks. Disney recently found itself caught between its employees and Florida’s Republican governor over its stance on the state’s controversial laws for schools regarding LGBTQ rights.

They should stay silent.
Perhaps Disney’s losses in Florida were instructive to other corporations?
If they do, which I believe many will but it will be hard because they have a bunch of left wing nuts on their payrolls that will demand action, the issue of Abortion will not be a big rallying point for the left this November.
Just look at what is happening right now to push this off the front page - DJIA down 1000+ and the R word is being thrown about.
Of course they should. If media or employees have questions they should be directed to their elected officials.
Businesses are there to make money. Period.
No, businesses are there to save the world, change public opinion and to give marginalized non-white males reparations.
Or at least that's what Madison Ave tells me everyday.
"OMG, all those black animals will now be born and grow up to rape and rob white people in my gated and guarded community. D**n you, Donald Trump!"
Business SHOULD stay quiet. If they don’t have anything to do with it, sell your product and shut your political pie-holes!
A friend suggested that pro-abortion quotes be suffixed with: “Hail Moloch!” For example:
“I have met thousands and thousands of pro-choice men and women. I have never met anyone who is pro-abortion. Hail Moloch!” — Hillary Clinton
“You cannot have maternal health without reproductive health. And reproductive health includes contraception and family planning and access to legal, safe abortion. Hail Moloch!” -— Hillary Clinton
“Seventy-seven percent of anti-abortion leaders are men. 100% of them will never be pregnant. Hail Moloch!” - Planned Parenthood advertisement.
“The emphasis must be not on the right to abortion but on the right to privacy and reproductive control. Hail Moloch!”
-—Ruth Bader Ginsburg
I know, I know. I work in the corporate world the the DIE nonsense has infiltrated my work. A bunch of useless bums, no marketable skills, skimming off the company.
RE: corporate America is (mostly) staying silent
Staying out of divisive politics is the wise thing for companies to do ( except for the likes of Amazon).
