Solar Power is only viable in a limited number of circumstances, this whole push to go Solar is just plain stupidity and borders Lunacy.
I solar Powered my Well because the cost of getting electricity up my mountain was and still is way to high, so for about $5K(10 years ago) I put in:
12 Used solar Panels $100 each on Craigs List
8 225 Amp Hour 6 volt Batteries $100 each at Costco
1 MPPT Charge Controller $175 on Ebay
1 Magnum MS4024PAE Grid Tie Inverter $2500
And this runs my Well flawlessly, automatic watering for all my fruit trees, a Full Size Fridge and all the lights I want to turn on. But it definitely has limitations after the Sun starts going down and when it gets Cold outside. Which is why I got the Grid Tie inverter and have it hooked up to my Generator when and if I need it. I only need the Generator if I use power at night, which I rarely do, so it works in this situation. But for most people, you will be out of power by 9PM if you go full Solar
But what about batteries?

Those batteries will only last about three years. Your mileage may vary.
