McKinley-Mooney primary weighs West Virginia roots against Trump support (primary next Tuesday!)

Still, McKinley said he would support McCarthy if the GOP wins back the House and McCarthy was the candidate for speaker.

“If Kevin McCarthy is the candidate, I’m going to be voting yes,” McKinley said.

West Virginia is in dire need of infrastructure improvements, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers. The group gave the state’s infrastructure a “D” on its 2020 report card, noting that many existing public works are deteriorated and that new construction, replacement and repair efforts have not kept up with what is needed.

West Virginia would expect to get around $3.8 billion in formula funding for highways and bridges from the bill, according to the Department of Transportation, which notes there are 1,545 bridges and more than 3,222 miles of highway in poor condition in the state. West Virginia airports would get approximately $44 million over five years, DOT says.

The law also gave President Joe Biden a legislative victory his predecessors could not achieve. Representatives for Trump spoke with McKinley ahead of the vote, concerned he would defy the former president’s wishes.

“They said, ‘You know, if that happens, Trump is going to endorse your opponent.’” McKinley recounted.

That’s exactly what happened.

Trump backs opponent

On Nov. 15 — the same day Biden signed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act into law — Trump endorsed Mooney.

On April 25, Trump reiterated his support for Mooney, calling him a “conservative warrior” and casting McKinley as a RINO, or “Republican in name only,” who supported the “’Unfrastructure Bill’” and “Sham January 6 Unselect Committee.”

McKinley is shouting that he is an Assistant Democrat/Bush League Republican.
I hope people pay attention.

McKinley has been in office 11 years. At the 10 year point even the most conservative office holders start to become under the spell of the Beltway if it had happened sooner. (or like Rats they arrive in DC already under the spell!).
He went in as a Tea Partier and evolved to an assistant Rat. Time for him to go!

I’ll be voting against him in the primary. It’s a shame, he sort of did politics the way it should be done. Had a successful construction engineering career built up a company. Then went into politics. His votes in the Biden budget are a deal breaker for me.

Now Mooney I do have problems with. He’s a professional politician. I look for reasons not to vote for that type. I’m done with them. He has served the conservative cause well, so there’s that. And yes by WV standards he’s a carpetbagger, moved to WV to advance a political career he couldn’t get going in Maryland. That’s probably why he will lose to McKinley. Native son vs non-native is a big deal in WV and the rest of Appalachia.

MAGA should endorse a 10 year term limit on all candidates.

VERY HARD to get embraced. It would eliminate Rand Paul.

But if we’re not draining the Swamp, what are we doing?

Agree!
12 years (two terms) for Senate and sit out at least for one full term before can return.
10 years (5 terms) for House and sit out 2 or 3 terms before you can return.

Agree replacing Rat swamp creatures with GOP ones doesn’t do a lot!

Mandatory retirement ages, too. We don’t need senile people in Congress making laws that control our lives.
