| The Republican Party of Texas (RPT) released the following statement regarding the leaked draft decision of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case that would overturn Roe v. Wade and Casey v. Planned Parenthood, thereby making the legality of abortion a state issue. A leak of this nature has never happened before in the history of the Supreme Court and should be taken very seriously. Whether the intent was to influence the outcome of the case or prompt a legislative response, this leak is damaging to the independence of the judiciary, the integrity of the Court and the rule of law. It should be investigated by the FBI and those responsible should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. When Roe is overturned, the voters of each state will have the ability to decide if abortion is legal where they live and under what conditions. The RPT platform calls for the reversal of Roe v Wade and the abolition of abortion. To this end, it was a legislative priority of the Republican Party of Texas for the 87th Texas Legislative Session to abolish abortion, and we supported 11 bills on the subject. One of the most significant was HB1280, proposed by Rep. Giovanni Capriglione and Sen. Angela Paxton and signed into law by Gov. Abbott, which would prohibit abortion in Texas when the Supreme Court overrules, wholly or partly, Roe v. Wade. As a result, if the leaked decision is ultimately rendered, unborn children will be legally protected in Texas. The Republican Party of Texas supports facilitating adoptions and providing assistance to mothers in need both during and after their pregnancies. To this end, the Texas Legislature has greatly increased funding for the Alternatives to Abortion program, which received $100 million for the biennium. This program gives mothers access to needed resources during their pregnancy. After delivery, the program continues to assist the new mom and child by providing items like diapers, formula, and parenting classes. Additionally private nonprofit crisis pregnancy centers like Birth Choice in Dallas, the Trotter House in Austin, and Houston Pregnancy Help Center in Houston provide services to assist mothers during and after pregnancy. We are witnessing history right now. We do not know what the coming hours or days will bring. But we are hopeful for a future that once again protects innocent life. Join us in prayer. |
Limits every other electrical grid has to abide by and amazingly enough none of them had their grids crashed by a little bad weather. Wouldn't it make sense for Texas to factor that into their planning when identifying power generating needs rather than just ignoring it?
And when the next 500 year event hits Houston or the next 100 year record low hits an independent Texas then who will you go whining to for the financial bailout?
A 100 year record low temp event. It would be insanely expensive to build infrastructure to not get effected by those events. Plus they had one nuke plant offline during that time for maintenance. It was when they bought that nuke plant back online is when the crisis ended.
The Republic of Texas produces almost 1/2 of all the oil and gas produced in the United States.
We won’t have to whine to anyone. Well just sell our oil and natural gas to states like Missouri marked up for what we need.

That’s actually a very good, if not great, PR move by the RPT.
They clearly state the leak is wrong, and should be prosecuted.
Then they state that they are against infanticide (aka abortion), and back it up by stating there are actual OPTIONS - and listing places for pregnant women to get assistance in three of the biggest cities, Austin, Dallas and Houston.

SUMMARY
The ERCOT region is expected to have sufficient installed generating capacity to serve peak
demands in the upcoming spring season, March – May 2022, under normal system conditions
and most of the reserve capacity risk scenarios examined. The spring capacity planning
reserve margin is forecasted at 52.5%, which is intended to cover resource outages, lowerthan-expected renewable output, and higher-than-expected customer demand.
Based on expected spring peak weather conditions, the peak demand for Spring 2022 is
forecasted to be 64,729 MW.
A total of 94,394 MW of resource capacity is expected to be available for the spring season.
Since the start of winter 2021-22, 31 units have been approved for synchronization to the
ERCOT Grid. These units are comprised of wind, solar, and energy storage projects1 that total
1,027 MW based on the expected capacity contribution for wind and solar at the time of peak
demand, and spring-rated capacity for thermal resources. An additional 367 MW of planned
resource capacity constituting gas-fired and wind units are expected to be available to meet
the spring peak demand.

Key phrase ‘and most’. Building in capacity for extreme conditions is very wasteful. It would be the equivalent of your big box store building 250 register lanes so no one has to wait on Black Friday but 200 of those lanes are not used the other 364 days of the year.
And when your heat goes out in the winter and your A/C goes out in the summer? How will your oil and natural gas help then?

Heat is natural gas. We produce so much we sell it to other states and countries. A/C in the summer??? We can produce all the electricity we need.

Last year was a one off event from a 120 year temperature record. The exact same temps would do nothing in the future. One of 4 nuke plants will not now stay offline if somethi g like that appears on the radar screen. Natural gas pipelines to power stations that came up out of the ground and froze have been reworked or insulated. Wind turbines are now winterized. So save all the snarky garbage the grid.

I agree. Thank you for noting the importance. I believe that governor Abbott and most of the leaders in the GOP are fully behind stopping the slaughter of babies.
They all should have been fired for negligence.
