This however, seems a much less effective system than the upgraded harpoon types. I don't see much strategic difference in a warship sinking in 1 minute vs 4 hours. Standoff range is king in this arena.
“a long range gliding guided bomb that can do evasive actions on it’s way in
Not the bomb, the launching aircraft. It has to be somewhat stable during the weapon release. Sitting duck if inside the air defense missile zone.
“This is conventional warfare, not nuclear.”
I understand that completely, but if you can’t take a ship out without it getting sunk you’re going to stop taking ships out. It’s the same thing your destruction is assured.
I agree!
IMHO, the only defense is to shoot down the delivery aircraft before weapon release.
In addition, the cost to manufacture would be relatively cheap. Perhaps, we could manufacture 100 of these JDAMs for the same cost of one Harpoon.
My hope is that Taiwan already has several thousand of these in their WRM.
I understand that completely, but
***I think you do not understand it completely... as follows...
if you can’t take a ship out without it getting sunk you’re going to stop taking ships out.
***Like the Muskva before it sank... as an example....
It’s the same thing your destruction is assured.
***No it is not. You took the ship out to the point it has to be towed back to port to be repaired. It is no longer an offensive weapon. How does that add up to MAD? It does not.
I understand completely.
That is your claim. Your claim is unsupported by facts.
What is the difference between mutually assured destruction and ships that are not deployed because it will be assuredly destroyed?
I’m asking you. What is the difference?
Thinking Old tech, new label ...... create a big bubble under a big boat and break it in half . Down it goes ......
