Yugoslavia was essentially Greater Serbia and a product of the Versailles Treaty. No one asked the Croats, Slovenes or Bosnians about it. Just like the Soviet Union was a product of the Russian Empire.

We didn't break it up: it fell apart due to the wishes of its own peoples, although we warned Kohl that German recognition of an independent Croatia would precipitate a war between Croatia and Serbia, which it did. So the Us was actually trying to work out a political solution. We only intervened when the Serbs resorted to rapine and mass murder to try to restore the status quo, a penchant for which they share with the Russians. Read up on the Balkan Wars in the early 20th century.

“We only intervened when the Serbs resorted to rapine and mass murder....”

Serbia was an independent sovereign nation. We attacked a sovereign nation and no amount of rhetoric will change that fact. Just like we attacked the sovereign nations of Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. No different than Russia has done.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander!
