Since the beginning of human civilization, there has been a battle between "collectivism" (and the poverty/mediocrity/stagnation it brings) and "individualism" (which brings meritocracy, invention, and growth).

That's just the nature of humanity.

That said, the politicians who support "collectivism" are just taking advantage of a popular cause to build support for their own benefit. They don't believe in that crap.
